As Chief Executive of IFB my role is wide and varied, primarily it is to provide leadership, strategic vision and direction to the business and specifically demonstrate how these delivered effectively transform the business. As leading digital SME We’ve led some pretty amazing firsts for Scotland, first commercial Broadband network, first WiFi enabled City project, first large scale Cloud based data backup service and first true, pure fibre network to the premise.
In parallel to leading IFB there is a lot of hard work goes on to creating and maintaining relevant external relationships with all forms of stakeholders needed to invest in IFB and on the wider Digital economy in Scotland, the UK and Globally. Closely connected to this vision I have been fortunate enough to have been part of SDI and SE learning journeys to the US West and East Coasts gaining significant and relevant high growth tech sector insights. Additionally I continue to play an active part on the Scottish Government’s Digital Public Services Advisory Board, The Robert Gordon University Industry Advisory Group, The Robert Gordon’s College Development Committee.
These are challenging, exciting and extremely rewarding times for our industry and my goals while chairing ScotlandIS is that together with our members and partners of all sizes help further establish Scotland as a place that educates, develops and delivers people, businesses and organisations that lead and compete globally.
Frances is Chief Technology Officer at SIMUL8 Corporation and is responsible for creating and driving their product strategy that has made them the respected powerhouse in simulation technology across the world. Frances joined SIMUL8 in 1999 as a graduate management consultant and has worked in a variety of roles across the company including software development, product management and lead consultant on process improvement projects that have saved companies millions.
This has allowed her to develop skills in all areas of business from R&D and software development to creating marketing and PR Strategies. With a background in mathematics and operational research Frances continues to have a keen interest in this area and how it can advance analytics and big data. She is also passionate about helping develop the next generation of technology leaders and showing them the possibilities that a career in the ICT sector has to offer.
Polly started her career with the Royal Bank of Scotland Group working in the City of London. Returning to Scotland she held a variety of roles at Scottish Enterprise, progressing to acting Director of Scottish Enterprise Edinburgh & Lothian's Company Growth Division. In this role she had special responsibility for development of small business policy.
Following a period in management consultancy with specialist business growth consultants Matrix Management, Polly moved to the Scottish Software Federation, and was actively engaged in the merger which formed ScotlandIS.
Polly represents ScotlandIS on the Digital Excellence Business Excellence Partnership, the Tech Partnership UK Scotland board, the ICT Skills Group, the Industrial Advisory Board of the University of Dundee's School of Computing, chairs the board of CodeClan and is a director of dotScot Registry.
Alastair is Public services Sector Director at Amor Group. In this role, his responsibilities include full profit and loss accountability for designated aspects of Amor operations. His external facing responsibilities include customer and contract relationship management.
Since graduating from the University of Glasgow in Computing Science has worked extensively in the consultancy and IT industries. Alastair is an experienced business manager, programme manager and IT Consultant with 30 years of project experience in a variety of market sectors, and an outstanding track record of successful delivery of complex, high-risk projects.
Alastair is a confident professional leader with well developed interpersonal skills and a strong customer focus. He has been instrumental in establishing Amor Group as a major force in delivering Business and IT Consultancy services to the Public Sector and as a leading player in Scotland providing consultancy and services to the Scottish Executive, NHS Scotland, Scottish Police Information Services, Glasgow City Council and many Non-Departmental Public Bodies.

I started my career with IBM in Dublin as an Infrastructure Engineer. Over the course of an 8 year period I moved into Service Management in Global Services and worked on large Programmes for Pfizer and RSA. In 2006 I moved to Edinburgh and joined Bodycote as their European IT Service Delivery Manager. In 2008 Bodycote divested its Materials Testing business and Exova was formed. I worked with Exova in the same capacity until December 2012 when I moved to Microsoft. I am an Account Delivery Executive in Microsoft for a large Scottish customer who happens to be a bank, but also have a wider interest in the Scottish market. In a nutshell I have overall responsibility for the services Microsoft deliver into a customer.
I live in Edinburgh with my beautiful Wife and 2 kids. If I get a spare second in a day I either jump on my bike, stick my golf clubs in the car or head out to Murrayfield to watch Edinburgh.

I have 13 years experience working in Information Technology from writing and supporting applications in C for the FICC division Goldman Sachs all the way through to selling IT solutions in the Oil & Gas sector.
Andrew is the Chief Technology Officer at Administrate, one of Scotland’s fast growing technology businesses, specialising in training management software. Previously COO with mobile apps developer Kotikan, where he built an Engineering department of 20 talented software experts, developing industry leading apps for clients such as Skyscanner, The Fringe and FanDuel. Since graduating from the University of Edinburgh in 2003, Andrew has been involved in various software companies and open source groups both in Scotland and in Silicon Valley. He has been a founding member of 3 different startups and is working hard to support the software community locally and abroad.
Stephen Beer is Managing Director of Bridgeall, and in partnership with his 2 founding co-Directors, has led Bridgeall from 2003 to become an innovative and thriving IT services firm. With a career in IT now spanning 30 years, Stephen has a PhD in Software Engineering from the University of Strathclyde, has worked for Oracle, been an independent consultant and MD of several firms. Either through nature or necessity he has a developed entrepreneurial outlook and has a keen interest in developing new business models. He has endured the painful experience of building a company up and seeing it through to liquidation but, with hindsight, major lessons were learned. He has had the very joyful experience of seeing the Bridgeall team taking a concept from scratch and building a Software as a Service solution used by 6,500 libraries globally.

Gordon has been established successfully in the world of IT recruitment for over 15 years and is the business owner of 9-20 Recruitment, headquartered in Glasgow City Centre. One of the founding team at 9-20 Recruitment, after nine years of helping to drive delivery and growth at the company, he instigated a management buyout in 2012. Since the MBO, the organisation has quadrupled in size, now employing over twenty individuals across the UK, and taken on new offices, with plans for future growth. Gordon’s history in technology recruitment means he has an in-depth knowledge of the entire IT business lifecycle and he is continually looking to assist business owners to achieve results end to end. Gordon is passionate; not only in helping clients attract the very best talent but also in helping them to achieve unrivalled success within their respective industries, taking the time to understand ‘what makes businesses tick’.
Aaron holds the Chair of Human Computer Interaction in St Andrews University School of Computer Science and is co-founder and director of the St Andrews Computer Human Interaction research group (SACHI). He has worked in industry and in academia in Australia, Japan, USA, Germany, Ireland and the UK, and has experience of working with multinationals and smaller companies. Previously deputy director and director of knowledge exchange for SICSA, he chaired the AspeKT board, and worked with ScotlandIS and others on the formation of the DataLab along with developing new mechanisms for early career researchers to engage with industry. His research interests include surface and multi-display computing, human computer interaction, pervasive and ubiquitous computing and information visualization.
Alison is the Regional Director for Scotland and Northern Ireland at Sopra Steria. Having been with the company since its days as Newell & Budge, Alison has been key to the company’s sustained growth in Scotland – particularly in Public Sector.
Alison is passionate about the positive impact of technology - it's potential to enable doing new things, doing things better and doing things more efficiently, and has over 20 years’ experience of public sector services across Central Government, Local Government, Health and Third Sector.
Alison also sits on the Digital Participation programme board for Scotland.
I am a Director of Head Resourcing, one of Scotland’s leading IT, Digital and Business Change recruitment consultancies. I joined Head Resourcing in 2005, when the business was a boutique firm, employing 10 members of staff with a turnover of £7.5m. Since joining Head Resourcing, I have been instrumental to the growth and transformation of the business, which is now widely recognised as a market leading recruitment business to clients across a range of sectors, employing 73 members of staff with a turnover of £43million.
I have operated in the Scottish IT market for over 15 years and held senior positions with two Scottish based IT consultancy organisations prior to joining Head Resourcing. I am extremely passionate about the Scottish IT & digital skills industry and lead a number of key industry events designed to facilitate collaboration and knowledge sharing. These include a quarterly Scottish IT Directors’ Forum, which attracts between 12-15 IT Directors from a range of sectors across Scotland and an IT Skills Panel, an initiative designed to look at how organisations can work collaboratively to address the short, medium and long term IT skills needs of the industry. I am also a member of the Women in Technology Steering Group established by ScotlandIS earlier this year and am going to be a contributor to the Gender work stream of the Scottish Digital Skills Programme, commencing later this month.
Ian's career spans industry and academia, with 10 years in the technology and finance sectors as a software consultant and project manager followed by over 20 years in academia. His work continues to have a strong industry links with recent projects in cloud computing in SMEs, consultancy on applications of technology in oil and gas and software process improvement in small and large environments, and development of visual control systems in manufacturing. he is just about to move from his current role as Head of School at Robert Gordon University to be Dean of Engineering and Computing at the University of the West of Scotland.
Core areas of focus are Leadership, Value Creation and Strategic thinking. He is a regular speaker at events on Leadership in business and has spoken at conferences from Los Angeles to Abu Dhabi.
As a serial entrepreneur Russell’s sees primary focus as a board member of ScotlandIS is to represent the views of our SME member companies, those with less than 250 staff. Russell’s overarching goal is to encourage and support accelerated growth for digital technology businesses in Scotland.

Kenny is a Senior Software Development Manager with the Amazon Development Centre in Edinburgh, where he leads a team within the innovative and growing domain of Dynamic Advertising.
He began his career as a graduate software engineer with BT before helping Atlantech Technologies grow from a small Scottish startup to becoming part of Cisco. Within Cisco, Kenny became Director of Engineering for the Service Fulfillment Software Group responsible for managing large, multi-national projects delivering to the world’s top telecommunications providers.
Through his work, he has experience working with small startups, large corporations, government bodies, academic institutions and a number of Scotland IS member organisations. Kenny is a strong believer that collaboration between these groups is the key to Scotland fulfilling its true potential in the global market. However, his experience has shown that it is not always easy to make these collaborations occur. ScotlandIS has a unique role to play in helping to build a framework that will allow such collaborations to be the natural operating model within the industry.
I am of Head of Business Development and Marketing at The Data Lab, where I work closely with Scottish organisations and Academia to unlock the value of data in their organisations to generate employment/revenue for the Scottish economy.
I have over 15 years business development and marketing experience in the technology and business-business sectors in Ireland and Scotland. My career started as one of the first employees in Dell in the republic of Ireland, a few years later I was asked to lead the development of the company into Northern Ireland that, I worked closely with state agencies around job creation and sustainability for the organisation.
