This will be a day for beginners as well as experienced project managers and everyone in between to come and share what they know with fellow practitioners. The new can learn from the old, and the old can see things again through the eyes of the newcomers. This is not a day for sales pitches, but rather a day to share experiences about what works and what doesn't work. It's a day for sharing ideas.
The day will start with barcamp style talks where people volunteer to offer prepared talks they brought with them for the event . If you've not done a barcamp talk before, then look at 'how to speak at a barcamp and love it'.
After lunch we can run a round of 3 minute long lightning talks for half an hour, on whatever people wanted to highlight. The lightning talks could be used to ‘recruit’ people for the open space topics that follow later. Open space proposals are put up by volunteers want to guide a discussion on their topic in order to raise the issues of concern to them and others.
Topics that people might want to talk about:
- agile versus traditional projects
- beyond budgeting aspects for projects
- organised versus self-organising teams
- planning versus unfolding events
The general outline of the day could be something like this as a mixture of barcamp and open space events:
9:30-10 gather for coffee and registration
10-10:30 propose barcamp style talks
10:45-11:15 two or three parallel talks
11:30 coffee
11:30-12 two or three parallel talks
12-13:00 lunch
13:00-13:30 lightning talks for anyone to talk on a topic for 3 minutes
13:30-14:00 open space proposals
14:15-15:00 first rounds of two/three parallel open spaces
15:15 coffee
15:15-16:00 second round of two/three open spaces
16:15 coffee
16:15-17:00 third round of two/three open spaces
17:00-17:15 concluding remarks
We need sponsors to help make this happen: to provide food and coffee during the day. If your company would like to help then please get in touch ASAP to help.
We now have some sponsorship from ScotlandIS. Thanks!
The more sponsors we have, then the better and more plentiful we can make the food and coffee on the day. Any and all contributions are welcome.
