Delegates will have the opportunity to influence the future direction of privacy legislation and the way in which the administration moves us safely and securely towards a truly digital society by contributing to a conference report to be delivered to the incoming Government, the media and the technology industry. E-voting, questions and answer sessions, and live twitter feeds will enable everyone in the room to play a role in the way privacy is integrated into our future.
Increasingly, powerful converged technologies and greater confidence in digital systems are creating a truly global digital society. This presents opportunities to make life easier, but huge challenges for maintaining our privacy. A Fine Balance 2010 aims to tackle a number of the key issues associated with a new environment, powered by digital technology.
Legislation and regulation – There is no existing regulatory model for a truly digital society. How will the rule of law have to change to ensure protection in the digital age?
Can regulatory standards from national bodies help us develop a framework?
Technology and innovation - It is estimated that humankind will create 1,200 exabytes (billion gigabytes) of data this year. The rate of production and how easily and widely it is shared means we need a new approach to handling it all. What new technologies can be deployed to keep this data safe?
Ethics and consumer acceptance – how does a new digital society change the relationships between businesses, the public and the state when it comes to who owns, accesses and manages information?
