IT is a significant area of investment for all businesses and public sector organisations. Yet it is often unclear whether returns from IT justify the expenditure. In the current business climate, spending on IT is likely to be subject to increasing scrutiny and clear thinking about the return on IT projects will be particularly important.
Based on the recent publication from the IT Faculty, Measuring IT Returns, Kirstin Gillon will consider the challenges faced in applying financial analysis to IT investment opportunities and outline how businesses may be able to apply such techniques more meaningfully. The seminar will also draw on a wealth of literature to highlight a range of useful management practices in the area of IT value.
Key topics
* Key considerations for developing an effective measurement regime
* What is different about IT investments and what the potential benefits from IT can be
* Why IT investments are particularly worth considering in a recession
* Common management practices that can aid the evaluation and implementation of IT systems
Kirstin will lead a highly interactive session, based on a round table format, mixing a presentation with group discussions.
Speaker
Kirstin Gillon is a technical manager in the IT Faculty and is responsible for the faculty’s Making Information Systems Work thought leadership programme. Prior to joining the ICAEW, Kirstin was a Senior Consultant in PwC’s IT consultancy practice.
