Health Care in the UK is facing many issues, especially related to the lack of standardization of data infrastructures, and from the increased demands of an aging population. In the future, systems thus need to be created in a way that are much more patient centric, and which allow for patients to be cared for in a holistic way. A key element of this is that they must be scaleable, robust and secure.
This event aims to present some of the research and best practice around next generation health care infrastructures, and how they could be used to bring benefits to all the stakeholders involved.

The day will start with barcamp style talks where people volunteer to offer prepared talks they brought with them for the event . If you've not done a barcamp talk before, then look at 'how to speak at a barcamp and love it'.

How close is Scotland to creating a ‘digital public sector’ whose goal is to improve public services and the ease which they are accessed by citizens?

Last June, John McClelland published his review of the use and strategic management of information and communications technology (ICT) in the public sector in Scotland.

He offered a vision of the future. ‘Smart’ homes provide support for older people and other groups needing care. Doctors' appointments are made online. Books are borrowed ‘virtually’ without visiting the library.

Everyone has a unique identifier to access all public services via a single online portal. A smart card provides entry to public buildings, concessionary travel and other entitlements.
