Scottish Government briefing on Scottish Wide Area Network plans
Venue: Oracle, Linlithgow
Date: Thu 6 Sep 2012
Scottish Government is planning a major procurement in the coming months for the Scottish Wide Area Network (SWAN) Programme – an initiative that will result in a greater level of infrastructure sharing and other shared services capability across the public sector. Over the lifetime of the programme, it will replace individual organisational networks as their existing contracts come to end of life and the aggregated demand will deliver significant benefits in cost saving and efficiencies.

Intelligent Data for a Low Carbon Economy
Venue: The Robert Gordon University, Garthdee Campus, Aberdeen

The Climate Change (Scotland) Act 2009 includes a commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 42% for 2020 (from a 1990 base) and an 80% reduction target by 2050: targets which are arguably the most ambitious anywhere in the world.
To meet these targets Scottish companies must become much more effective and efficient at collecting, analysing and acting upon the deluge of data that is engulfing their operations.
There is help. Advanced Technologies are enabling increasingly intelligent mining, modelling and management of large data sets. New software tools and platforms are facilitating smarter management of 'big data' and can be applied to the challenges around optimising Energy Generation, Distribution & Storage. IT solutions are now providing companies with huge potential to tackle the significant data challenges created by the low carbon economy.
