Amor Group to build new NHS records system

Amor Group have won a major contract to build a new records system for the NHS, to deliver efficiencies and provide enhanced services.  The deal signals an expansion into clinical work for Amor Group and is expected to pave the way for additional work in the medical field.

Situated in Clydebank, Golden Jubilee National Hospital is home to the specialist West of Scotland Heart and Lung Centre, which receives referrals from all over the country.

The new cardiac, thoracic and cardiology (eCTC) system will help to deliver efficiencies and cost savings for the NHS by streamlining the way information such as letters to GPs, is recorded, stored, shared and documented.

By cutting down on duplication and making more efficient use of existing data and technology, the new system will save both time and money.

The aim is to ensure that the full patient journey, including all appointments, operations, treatments and follow-up visits, is accurately recorded, providing more consistent data for auditing.

Amor Group will replace the existing two systems with a new consolidated system that is securely accessible via the internet and is fully integrated with eReferrals, currently being rolled out by NHS Scotland to meet targets for electronic referrals by clinicians.

This will also mean staff will use one single system instead of having to learn different IT systems.

Alastair O’Brien, Public Sector Business Unit Director at Amor Group, said: “We have vast experience in healthcare IT solutions and this move into clinical systems is a natural progression, so we were delighted to be awarded the contract after a successful tendering process.

“The hospital currently has two systems for managing cardiac and cardiology patient services. The thoracic department does not have a dedicated system to record data, while reports are provided from a variety of different resources.

“We will be building a new system that provides accuracy and consistency across all letters, operation notes, discharge letters and workflow for all cardiac, thoracic and cardiology surgery procedures at Golden Jubilee National Hospital.”

Alastair believes the system could be employed in other hospitals.

“As well as being user friendly and accurate, our system will capture the full patient journey in a timely manner, which will cut down on duplication and wasted resources. It will also ensure that the information gathered conforms to NHS regulations and statutory audit requirements,” he added.

The six-month project will be led by a team at Amor Group’s headquarters at India of Inchinnan in Renfrewshire.

Amor Group has a large number of major public sector clients, including the NHS and Scottish Government, and has a long track record of helping to deliver efficiency, value for money and improve the quality of frontline services.

The group is a delivery partner to the public sector through a number of procurement frameworks including Buying Solutions and NHS Connecting for Health.
