BT helps launch digital inclusion project in West Highlands
A new three-year initiative across Skye, Wester Ross, Lochaber and Sutherland will help local people access the internet, learn new skills and find out more about computers and technology.
The project, managed by national charity Citizens Online, uses technology to help communities counter social disadvantage.
Funded by The Highland Council, the Nominet Trust, Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) and BT Scotland as part of its Get IT Together programme, the new initiative is open to anyone interested in learning more about IT and the internet.
Brendan Dick, director, BT Scotland, said: “BT launched its digital inclusion programme Get IT Together with the aim of making a positive difference to society. We want everyone to experience the benefits of ICT, no matter where they live or work, using technology to build an economically sustainable, educated and socially inclusive society.
“Initiatives like this one in the West Highlands play a vital role in equipping people with the communication skills they need to get the most out of the world around them.”
John Fisher, chief executive of Citizens Online, added: “We are really pleased to be working in the Highlands once again and looking forward to the challenges of delivering the project across the area. The success of these initiatives comes from working in partnership and the team is keen to talk to any organisation that would like to get involved in any way.
