Best business in West Lothian shows continued commitment to helping sick kids

Leading international IT services company Atos Origin continues to commit its time and fundraising efforts for the Sick Kids Friends Foundation through a variety of charitable initiatives.

As part of the company’s ongoing corporate social responsibility programme, a team from the Livingston office visited NHS Lothian’s Sunndach Children’s Respite Home in Livingston, helping to re-paint one of its rooms and to create a mural in another. In the aptly named Antarctic Room, a mural showing a group of penguins and two ice-skaters dancing was painted on the bathroom wall.

Back at the office, a further £1800 has been raised through a series of fund raising events to invest in nine new televisions (with built-in DVD players) for the children’s bedrooms, including 90 DVDs donated by the team at Atos Origin.

Sunndach provides care for disabled children and young people with complex nursing needs. Atos Origin, which was awarded Best Business in West Lothian at the West Lothian Chamber of Commerce Excellence Awards in 2009 and 2010 consecutively, takes its corporate social responsibility seriously and its work with Sunndach is one of its biggest charitable initiatives.

Agnes Valentine, Client Executive at Atos Origin, said: “The team building day at Sunndach was both enjoyable and inspirational. It’s great to be able to take part in activities which are different from our day to day roles and give back to the community. Lots of effort was put into what turned out to be a fantastic day for an extremely worthwhile cause.”

Maureen Theurer, Charge Nurse, Sunndach Children’s Respite Home: “A big thank you to the team at Atos Origin whose ongoing support has been a huge help.  The children love seeing the work taking place in front of their eyes, it’s a wonderful experience for everyone involved.”

Will Guest, Corporate & Events Fundraiser for the Sick Kids Friends Foundation, said: “We would like to thank Atos Origin for all of their fantastic efforts in helping to transform Sunndach House. They have been very generous and put a lot of time and effort into their decorating and fundraising activities and the staff and children at Sunndach are very grateful.

"The Sick Kids Friends Foundation helps sick children get better by funding extra medical equipment, improving facilities, financing specialised research and training and providing a wide variety of extra comforts for young patients and their families at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children and other health centres in the community.

"Our motto is that, 'You don’t have to be a doctor to make sick kids better’. The staff at Atos Origin have gone some way to proving that at Sunndach House – they have long been supporters of the Sick Kids Friends Foundation and long may that relationship continue.”

Earlier this month, Barry Duncan and Stuart Christie from the Livingston office, ran an impressive 10k and cycled 60 miles as part of C.R.E.W. (Cycle Run Eat Walk) Scotland to help the raise £26,000 for the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh.

Sunndach and the Royal Hospital for Sick Children are supported by the Sick Kids Friends Foundation, which is Atos Origin’s chosen charity at its Livingston office. To date, the company has raised over £9000 for the charity through a variety of social events.
