Central Scotland businesses to benefit from superfast connectivity
As BT rolls out its next generation Broadband, businesses in West Lothian will be among the first in the UK to benefit from superfast connectivity. Engineers are currently completing local upgrades to bring around 6,500 local householders and firms served by the Livingston Station exchange on to the service. Livingston is among the first towns to benefit from BT’s roll-out of the technology.
BT director for Scotland, Brendan Dick said: “Households and businesses switching to super-fast broadband will soon be experiencing the internet as they have never experienced it before. The advent of BT fibre-based broadband in Livingston will support local jobs and the local economy, providing businesses with a technological edge in the current difficult climate. As our roll-out of super-fast, fibre-based broadband continues, many more customers in other parts of the country can look forward to faster speeds in the pipeline."
"We are very open to holding discussions with public sector organisations, such as regional development agencies and local councils, to explore ways of bringing super-fast, fibre-based broadband to locations where the economics are more challenging.”
At ScotlandIS, the trade body for software, telecomms and IT services, Executive Director Polly Purvis, welcomed the investment : "This is great news for Scotland and for West Lothian in particular. As a West Lothian based business, the team at ScotlandIS is looking forward to the improvements this will enable us to make in our own business. "
"On a wider scale, we all use technology to make our everyday and business lives more efficient, enjoyable and productive. Superfast broadband is the 21st Century equivalent of railways and electricity. It allows better, faster, easier and more efficient ways to communicate and interact, enabling businesses, individuals and government to deliver products and services, and rebuild our economy. We look forward to seeing superfast connectivity being made available to all communities across Scotland as an essential utility."
