Cloudsoft get Gartner seal of approval as 'Cool Vendor'

Cloudsoft Corporation, providers of cloud computing software and services that drive Intelligent Application Mobility, today announced that it has been included in the list of  “Cool Vendors in Application and Integration Platforms, 2011” report by Gartner, Inc. Written by Gartner Research VPs Massimo Pezzini, Kimihiko Iijima, Paolo Malinverno, Jess Thompson and Yefim V. Natis, the report reviews five vendors providing innovative offerings in this space, and discusses the Cloudsoft Monterey middleware solution for fine-grained application mobility.

According to the report, innovation in application and integration platforms continues from a technology perspective and in terms of packaging and delivery models. Increasingly, cloud computing requirements for large-scale, highly available, distributed transactional systems are drivers for application and integration platform evolution. Additionally, the report finds that application and integration platform innovation introduced by small vendors often plays a critical role in the strategy of large software vendors, typically through acquisitions.

ScotlandIS member Cloudsoft is recognised by Gartner as a Cool Vendor for its application middleware, called Monterey, which makes it possible to scale and distribute high-performance transactional applications across machines, locations and multiple clouds. Monterey achieves this through “Intelligent Application Mobility”, which enables application segments to move independently and near-instantly to anywhere across a distributed infrastructure – subject only to user-defined business policies and in response to changing conditions (e.g. changing workloads, user locations, capacities, availability, costs). This facilitates near-instant scalability and adaptability in the application tier, thereby creating an Elastic Process Fabric.

"We consider being recognised by Gartner as a ‘Cool Vendor’ as further vindication of the significance of Intelligent Application Mobility in solving the challenges that enterprises face scaling transactional business applications in a way that is totally transparent to both application developers and end users; while at the same time enabling enterprises to exploit to the full the elasticity and cost benefits of cloud computing”, said Duncan Johnston Watt, CEO of Cloudsoft.

“What is really cool is Monterey’s ability to decompose transactional applications into fine-grained segments at design time which can be dynamically moved between servers, locations or clouds at runtime, with zero interruption or degradation to service and where this live migration is policy-driven at all times”, continues Johnston-Watt. “This capability has huge implications for the widespread adoption of cloud computing by enterprises as it gives them the ability to realize its benefits and productivity gains while maintaining control and ensuring they conform to any governance and compliance requirements.”

About Cloudsoft Corporation
Cloudsoft Corporation is a venture-backed software company dedicated to ensuring that enterprises can apply the benefits of cloud computing to the large-scale, distributed, transactional systems that underpin their business. Utilizing Intelligent Application Mobility, the foundation of Cloudsoft's Monterey platform, they can rapidly overcome roadblocks to cloud adoption and migrate their business critical workloads into the cloud. Currently Monterey supports both the Eclipse Classic and the SpringSource Tool Suite development environments. Monterey extends VMware’s vFabric Cloud Application Platform, enabling the logical partitioning vFabric applications into discrete components and managing the dynamic deployment and migration of these components at runtime within and across clouds – private or public – with no disruption or interruption to service. It is the only solution that is geographically aware and automatically optimizes infrastructure utilization and governance based on policies.

The Monterey Developer Edition is available free of charge as either a download bundled with Eclipse Classic or as an Eclipse Plugin. This edition allows developers to build, run and manage Monterey applications or services in either a simulator or, using their own credentials, in public clouds such as Amazon EC2 or GoGrid.

About Gartner's Cool Vendors Selection Process
Gartner does not constitute an exhaustive list of vendors in any given technology area, but rather the criteria highlights interesting, new and innovative vendors, products and services. Gartner defines a cool vendor as a company that offers technologies or solutions that are: Innovative, enable users to do things they couldn't do before; Impactful, have, or will have, business impact (not just technology for the sake of technology); Intriguing, have caught Gartner's interest or curiosity in approximately the past six months. Gartner disclaims all warranties, expressed or implied, with respect to this research, including any warranties of merchantability or fitness of a particular purpose.
