Designed in Scotland, made in Morocco, sold in South Korea
Jenny Lockton, MD of Bohemia Design, is fast becoming one of Scotland's most successful online entrepreneurs. In partnership with Scottish eCommerce experts, INDEZ, her Edinburgh-based operation has been exporting Bohemian products to destinations as far afield as Japan, Hawaii, Norway and China. Within recent months, the popularity of her Scottish-designed products has meant that her business-to-consumer eCommerce website has attracted the attention of some major buyers wanting a high-quality supplier of unusual and hard-to-find design goods.
"Within the past few weeks I have concluded some major wholesale deals
selling pouffes to both Australia and South Korea" said Jenny Lockton,
Bohemia's MD. "It is truly remarkable that a small Edinburgh company
with little start-up resource is able to design products that it can
have manufactured in Morocco that get imported to Scotland that we are
then able to sell in over 50 countries around the world. We are
becoming a significant wholesaler with eight other wholesale deals
already concluded. With the right products, partners and know-how I
wonder how many other Scottish companies could do do the same? At a time
when high-street retail is becoming ever less attractive to business I
am surprised that so few other Scottish companies are not moving their
businesses to ones based on eCommerce".
INDEZ's Pete Mowforth commented "Jenny is typical of a growing network of new entrepreneurs. UK Government ONS figures put eCommerce at being worth over £408 Billion just in the UK and growing at over 24%. That makes UK eCommerce larger than the UK oil and gas industry combined whilst growing at more than twice the growth rate of China. That alone has to make it the biggest thing in business today. We look after over 20 large eCommerce sites that each make six, seven and eight figure annual sales. On average, over 30% of all sales are outwith the UK"
