Fast track the skills of new recruits in IT with the e-skills Professional Programme

Designed by e-skills UK and employers, the e-skills Professional Programme helps organisations of all sizes and across all sectors offer internationally-recognised, high quality learning and development which can be tailored to suit each organisation's unique needs.

By helping accelerate the business contribution of professionals in the early years of their IT careers, the Professional Programme addresses a real challenge for the UK – that due to globalisation, new IT professionals must progress rapidly to higher level roles without access to the traditional 'entry level' jobs that would help them to build their skills and experience.

The first part of the e-skills Professional Programme, the Foundation Level, launched in October 2009. Designed by employers, mapped to SFIA, and delivered by The Open University and the Lancaster University Management School, the Foundation Level offers:

•    core modules that address leadership, project and change management, commercial and IT pressures;
•    top quality, cost effective training that ensures a faster return on investment;
•    online learning;
•    options for continuing professional development to IT Specialisms and a Masters degree.

Organisations already participating in the pilot include BA, Cabinet Office, Carphone Warehouse, Prison Service, IBM, Lincolnshire Police, Met Police, NHS (England), NHS  Wales, Sainsbury’s, plus 8 English Government Departments and several SMEs.

Additional organisations joining in September 2010 include Centrica, the National Grid and GCHQ.

The cost of the Foundation Level is £4,500 per person.  Some 50% subsidies have been reserved for Scottish organisations, offered on a first come, first served basis.
