Inverness primary school wins prize in UK-wide technology competition

Pupils from Raigmore Primary School in Inverness were recognised for their creative use of technology at an awards ceremony for the annual Make IT Happy technology competition at the Houses of Parliament in London last week. The competition is run by the Parliamentary Information Technology Committee (PITCOM) and e-skills UK.

Raigmore Primary were named Scotland's winners with their entry showing how they use technology to keep in touch with their fathers who are fighting in Afghanistan with the Black Watch 3 Scots.

More than 230 primary schools across the UK registered for the 2009 competition, which challenged 9-11 year olds to demonstrate how technology can be used creatively to make people happy.

Three overall winners were chosen from the twelve winners representing each of Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and the nine English regions. First prize went to the Armthorpe Schools Pyramid from the Yorkshire & Humber region, second place to Bowbridge Primary School from the East Midlands, and third place to Trowbridge Primary School in Wales.
In recognition of the students' work, winning schools from each region received a prize of £1,200, with additional awards of £4,000, £2,500 and £1,500 going to the schools placed first, second and third overall.

The annual competition is supported by BCS, the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Nominet Trust.
