Jobs boost as Rockstar North unveils new game

Rockstar North, the Edinburgh-based computer game developer, has embarked on a recruitment drive ahead of the global launch later this month of its latest product L.A.Noire.

The creator of the Grand Theft Auto and Manhunt games franchises is looking to take on another dozen staff at its Scottish base including animation and tool programmers, character animators, environment artists and a production co-ordinator. Analysts say that Rockstar's publisher Take-Two Interactive Software, and its parent company Rockstar Games, both of New York, need a boost after the lacklustre response to their last big launch of "Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars" despite critical acclaim.

Undaunted, Rockstar North, which was formerly DMA Design before becoming a division of Rockstar Games in 1999, is seeking to fill various posts to help produce new in-game animations for future projects.

Take-Two, which has annual revenues of around £1 billion, plans to release L.A.Noire in North America on 17 May, followed by a release in Europe three days later.
