NHS Scotland plans Open Innovation Framework
Early in 2011 NHSScotland began a programme of work to establish a Future Desktop Strategy and to provide recommendations and a roadmap for the infrastructure of 98,000 client end points. A core activity of the programme was to take a deeper look at the possibility of adopting an “open standards” desktop as a more cost-effective solution.
NHSScotland is currently in the process of developing a set of standards to support the development and building of the NHS Scotland Open Desktop. A critical activity in migrating to such a system will be understanding the compatibility issues faced by the application estate and the costs of remediation required. It is the intention that on completion of successful testing that consideration would be given to how the Open Desktop could be adopted into the NHS production environment.
NHS Scotland is considering setting up an Open Innovation Framework in which suppliers could participate, either singularly or collaboratively in building the future NHS Scotland Open Desktop. This is likely to commence during late summer 2011.
Any suppliers who would like to express an interest in participating should provide a brief supporting statement and point of contact to the contact details supplied with this Prior Information Notice.
