New Chair Takes Charge at ScotlandIS
ScotlandIS has announced the appointment of a new Chairman. David Cairns, Executive Chairman of PrismTech, will take over as Chair from the beginning of May 2010.
David brings a wealth of experience in the international tech sector, having worked with companies in the telecommunications, computer hardware & software industries in the USA, Canada, the UK and continental Europe. His experience ranges from founding start ups to holding senior management, officer & board positions with public multi-national technology companies. Now back in Scotland, he leads Prismtech, a fast-growing software company specialising in communications solutions for the defence, aerospace, transportation and telecoms industries.
David succeeds Eddie Chance of Chance Associates who has been Chairman of ScotlandIS for the last three years.
Commenting on the handover, Eddie Chance said:
“I am delighted to be handing over to David who will bring his considerable experience and expertise, coupled with a deep understanding of international technology markets, to the role. ScotlandIS is embarking on an ambitious growth plan, with an increasing focus on supporting members in growing export markets. With its more representative board, and a new Chair of David's calibre, I am confident that ScotlandIS is well positioned for this task.”
In taking on his new role, David Cairns commented:
“Our industry is a significant contributor to Scotland, employing more than 50,000 people; more than 100,000 if you include ICT professionals working in other industries. I see the charter of ScotlandIS as providing a voice and support for the growth of this vital industry; to help drive Scotland’s economic future. Indeed, successful exploitation of information and communications technology has the power to transform our economy.
It’s an honour to take on the Chairmanship of ScotlandIS, and I look forward to working with its distinguished board, its member companies and others, such as Scottish Enterprise, to support our mutual aspirations for a vibrant entrepreneurial, prosperous and growing ICT industry in Scotland, recognised on the world stage for its expertise.”
