Pupils get online to beat bad weather
The severe weather, the worst in 50 years, at the end of November and through December resulted in massive disruption to schools hit secondary pupils particularly hard as they try to keep abreast of their work.
So this week West Lothian Council’s Education Executive took steps to help students affected by the disruption and say a new strategy will be drawn up to deal with similar situations in the future.
During the recent big chill all West Lothian pupils were given access to the online education network, Glow. Pupils can access study material on Glow from a computer at home, at a library or in community centres. The private website has study material and activities for pupils from P4 to S6. Learning & Teaching Scotland's Glow platform allows teachers and pupils to communicate over the internet in a safe and secure way.
Executive Councillor for education, Andrew Miller, commented: "We take the decision to close schools very seriously. However, the circumstances at the end of November were unprecedented. During the closures teachers updated school websites and the online resource Glow with work and study materials for pupils. We would like to congratulate pupils and teachers for their use of online learning resources."
