ScotlandIS Announces New Board Members

Following elections earlier this month, ScotlandIS, the trade body for the ICT industry, has now appointed five new members to the Board.

Polly Purvis, Executive Director of ScotlandIS said:

“I’m delighted to welcome our new board members, and look forward to working with them.  They each bring a wealth of experience from their backgrounds in the categories of smaller companies, larger businesses and academia, and reflect the mix of expertise which makes our industry so vibrant.”

The five new board members are:

  • Niall Brown, IBM UK.  Niall is responsible for the IBM relationship with consultants and systems integrators in Scotland.  With 18 years of experience in the IT Industry, Niall is a real advocate of industry collaboration to deliver maximum value and believes that ScotlandIS has a powerful role to play in bringing people together.
  • Colin Adams, Informatics Ventures.  Colin is the Director of Commercialisation at the School of Informatics at the University of Edinburgh and the Director of the AspekT program – the knowledge transfer program for the Scottish Informatics and Computer Science Alliance (SICSA) research pool.
  • John McGuire, Pulsion Technology.  Founder director of Pulsion John has over 25 years’ experience in IT and the web. He has grown Pulsion as a web software development  company with an increasing focus on product including the company’s eSquiggles mobile working product..  
  • Simon Mone, Mimtech.  Simon is the MD of Mimtech, a small, growing web design and development agency which deals with a wide range of organisations from small businesses to central government bodies throughout the UK.
  • Professor Ian Somerville.  Ian is a Professor of Computer Science at St Andrews University and Director of SICSA (the Scottish Informatics and Computer Science Alliance), which represents computer science expertise across all the Scottish universities.  


Commenting on the new board members ScotlandIS Chairman, David Cairns said:

“Our membership base continues to grow steadily, reflecting the increasing value of our industry to Scotland.  I am consequently delighted that we have attracted such high calibre individuals from across the ICT industry in Scotland to our board.  People who are also passionate about this exciting sector.  

“Our retiring board members contributed substantially to the growth of ScotlandIS over the last year and our new members this year bring demonstrated and varied capabilities and experience which will help strengthen our services to member companies.  With them, I look forward to another year of achievement in a challenging but exciting environment”.
