ScottishPower electrify football final
On a very cold Friday in May, teams from across Scotland's technology sector arrived in Edinburgh for the highlight of the football season. After a hard-fought final, ScottishPower secured a 3 - 1 victory over tournament outsiders Bright Purple to win the 2009 ScotlandIS 5-a-side football tournament.
Teams from dns, Head Resourcing, Lumison, ScottishPower, Bright Purple, Praxa, Harvey Nash Conscia, RBS and 9-20recruitment, took part in the group stages, but gradually skill and superior numbers began to pay off. The semi finals featured tournament regulars ScottishPower, along with last year's winners, 9-20recruitment, with the teams from Head Resources and Bright Purple proving to be serious challengers.
As the semi-final between Head Resourcing and Bright Purple got underway, drama was unfolding over on the Nou Camp, with Scottish Power beating last years champions 9-20 with a single goal. Bright Purple took an early lead over at the San Siro and despite an excellent performance from the Head Resourcing team, Bright Purple were able to resist Head's attacking football and added a second, decisive, goal.
The final was a close affair, and after an early goal from the exhausted Bright Purple team, ScottishPower regrouped and put in a scintillating attacking performance, that Barcelona would have been proud of. Had it not been for the Bright Purple keeper making a number of excellent saves the score would have been higher, but he was unable to keep out ScottishPower’s equaliser. As the match reached its conclusion and with extra time looming, ScottishPower scored twice in the space of two minutes to wrap up an electrifying victory.
