Shutl to take off in Scotland - speeding up delivery on eCommerce

A company that offers to boost retailers’ online sales through a sophisticated tailored delivery service is set to arrive in Scotland next month.

Shutl, a London-based firm founded by entrepreneur Tom Allason, 30, is seeking to establish itself as a “branded delivery option” on eCommerce sites, increasing their rate of browser “conversions” (sales) through the offer of immediate or time-specific delivery.

The site, which started trading in March 2010, already serves 47 retailers in London but is planning to roll out its services in Glasgow and Edinburgh, as well as Liverpool, Manchester and Leeds, followed by more major UK cities in September.

Shutl’s business model is based on tie-ups with high street and online retailers, aiming to complement their existing purchase delivery options with a branded service “equivalent to Paypal”. Its key innovation is a technology platform that sources available nearby couriers from its database. The technology then weighs up price, the courier service record and proximity to the stores and the customers. The service includes real-time information on the progress of the delivery.
