Skills Development Scotland’s new web service for job seekers - My World of Work
Atos is playing a role in supporting the transformation of careers information, advice and guidance in Scotland. The leading international IT services company supports Skills Development Scotland through a shared services agreement involving a number of Scotland’s public sector organisations.
So when SDS set out to develop a new innovative web experience to complement their existing services, it was their delivery partners at Atos who worked with the national skills body to make it happen.
Launched in August, My World of Work (www.myworldofwork.co.uk <http://www.myworldofwork.co.uk/> ) provides a completely new and innovative way of engaging with the Scottish public to provide access to information on careers, funding and training as well as acting as an access point to the breadth of services Skills Development Scotland has to offer. My World of Work engages users and connects them in a way that assists in the sharing of knowledge and contacts to help in their job or learning search. The launch comes hot on the heels of a UK Commission for Employment and Skills report, which discusses the vital role of technology in transforming career guidance, and the publication of the Scottish Government’s Career Information, Advice and Guidance Strategy earlier this year.
My World of Work replaces the current Careers Scotland website, and aims to help people plan, build and direct their career throughout their lives and supports the Scottish Government’s ambitions for an “all age, universal careers service.
The service will not replace face-to-face or telephone contact, but will help and encourage people who wish to engage with the web version for self-help, and will enable Skills Development Scotland career advisers to target their efforts at those who need support the most.
Agnes Valentine, Client Executive, Atos said: “We worked closely with Skills Development Scotland to help them enhance the experience for people in Scotland seeking work, a change of career or opportunities for learning. My World of Work is a dynamic and engaging service that we expect to attract a wider audience from all across Scotland, and will ultimately encourage self-help, self-confidence and personal results for those who use the service. We look forward to working with Skills Development Scotland as the website evolves to include more features and even greater engagement.”
Skills Development Scotland Chair, John McLelland, commented: ‘‘The development of My World of Work is fundamental to our strategy to provide customers with support when and where they need it and with a much greater degree of personalisation than anything we’ve had online previously.’’
‘‘It’s available 24/7 from Shetland to the Borders and complements the valuable face-to-face and telephone services already provided by Skills Development Scotland, as well as those provided by partners.’’
My World of Work features a career A-Z, CV builder, course search, jobs search, My Strengths questionnaire and hundreds of video clips giving an insight into job roles. There is also a significant magazine element with exciting, current content relevant to the world of work.
Atos delivers the IT managed services of the successful Skills Development Scotland Information Systems (IS) Shared Services agreement, which now includes other non-departmental public bodies such as Scottish Enterprise, Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission, and Highlands and Islands Enterprise, in order to transform IT to achieve efficiencies and service improvements.
