Strategic plan and research on Northern Ireland's IT & Telecoms sector published
e-skills UK has just published the Strategic Plan for Northern Ireland 2010-2014 and a major research report on the IT & Telecoms landscape in Northern Ireland.
The Strategic Plan for Northern Ireland (2010-2014) aims to unite industry, educators and government in collaborative action to ensure that Northern Ireland has the technology skills it needs to compete internationally.
The Strategic Plan for Northern Ireland is part of e-skills UK's suite of skills strategies that enable each nation to create the skills for Digital Britain and to derive maximum benefit from the power of technology to transform competitiveness and productivity.
The research, Technology Counts Northern Ireland: IT & Telecoms Insights 2010, summarises the findings of e-skills UK's recent research to provide an in depth understanding of the existing IT & Telecoms landscape in Northern Ireland. It provides forecasts for the future based on the best available intelligence, with new input from over 2,300 employers across the UK, including 416 in Northern Ireland.
The number of IT & Telecoms professionals employed is forecast to grow at eight times the average for Northern Ireland over the next ten years, with the IT & Telecoms professional workforce needing more than 1,900 new entrants to join it every year to keep up with demand.
On the basis of this research, e-skills UK will continue to work with employers and partners across the four nations of the UK. This work will help to ensure that Northern Ireland has the skills to secure its place at the forefront of the global digital economy.

New CEO role to transform IT sector skills
National Skills Academy for IT launches search for Chief Executive
The search has begun for a CEO who will shape the future of the IT sector in the UK by leading the National Skills Academy for IT. This position is the first of its kind, working with leaders at the highest echelons of industry, from companies including Accenture, BT, Cable&Wireless Worldwide, BA, The Carphone Warehouse, HP, IBM, Logica, Microsoft, Oracle, Qedis, Sainsbury’s, SFW, Vodafone and Whitbread.
In an eye-catching demonstration of their commitment to the Academy as a sector-led operation, employers agreed to their logos being used together for a unique advertisement for the CEO vacancy, and are actively supporting the development of the Academy’s products and services.
The CEO recruitment marks a new milestone in the development of the IT Skills Academy which launches in the autumn.
