SunGard Launches Dedicated Recover Anywhere
SunGard Availability Services, the pioneer and leading provider of information availability, and business continuity services today announced Dedicated Recover Anywhere – the latest extension to its innovative service that helps keep staff productive even when events prevent them getting to work. The service helps businesses to mitigate against a wider range of disruptions*, for, example the recent UK riots.
Recover Anywhere was launched in 2010 to broaden full desktop and telephony recovery to a higher percentage of an organisation’s workforce. Integrating both physical and virtual workplace environments, it allows business-critical workers to operate via secure remote access to an organisation’s existing IT and telephony in the event of a business disruption.
Unlike shared recovery models which spread resources across many customers (according to strict risk ratios), a dedicated offering delivers service resources on an exclusive 1:1 basis. Dedicated Recover Anywhere customers enjoy maximum service availability and can use the service to mitigate against the wide area disruptions that prevent staff from journeying to their usual place of work. Large scale disruptions typically lead to an upsurge in requests for recovery support, so businesses choosing a dedicated recovery model have greater flexibility to optimise their operational availability
SunGard has also increased the number of platforms on which the Recover Anywhere service will run to include iMac, iPad, and iPhone, which addresses the needs of a more mobile worker and the creative and media industries.
From the ‘travel lottery’ chaos of the Royal Wedding to the on-going threat of tube strikes and the recent widespread riots and lootings, businesses face the risk of disruption to the working day with an increasing regularity. With the 2012 Olympics nearing – and the further strain this could put on London’s transport infrastructure and working practices – businesses cannot afford for large swathes of their workforce to be unproductive in the event of disruption.
“Dedicated Recover Anywhere has been launched in response to two major trends impacting businesses – the rise of employees accessing corporate networks using mobile devices, and the increasing impact of business disruptions,” said Keith Tilley, managing director UK and executive vice president Europe for SunGard Availability Services. “Businesses can plan for larger events in advance, although, as we’ve seen with the recent riots and demonstrations, the earthquake in Japan and last year’s snow disruptions, businesses also need to be prepared for the unpredictable. Dedicated Recover Anywhere can help more staff using more devices to be recovered quickly and cost effectively to maintain productivity levels – regardless of external circumstances.”
"Business continuity is a bigger issue than ever, now that bad news can be so rapidly disseminated through social media and mobile devices,” said Angela Eager, Research Director, TechMarketView. “So when events conspire to prevent staff getting to work, work needs to go to where the staff are via technologies that enable remote working. Businesses are no longer bounded by their physical locations, likewise productivity and continuity should not be reliant on physically bringing staff together in a specific location.”
Dedicated Recover Anywhere empowers any authorised employee to participate fully in everyday work following a disruption as long as they have access to a suitable device with an internet connection and a telephone. A worker is provided with a URL and password to gain access to the recovered company network and usual inbound office telephony, via SunGard’s resilient recovery estate.
