Young people to show how technology can make you smile - Make IT Happen 2009 competition launched

It can be easy to forget that technology can help to make people happy. All it needs is a little imagination. That's where young people come in - they have loads.

The third annual Make IT Happen competition for primary school students aged 9 to 11 launched this week with the theme of 'Make IT Happy'. Students are asked to come up with an original idea about how they would use IT to make people smile. What they do and how they do it is up to them, but there are extra points for creativity and the use of IT in presenting their proposal.

Karen Price, CEO of e-skills UK said:

"Many of our primary schools are doing excellent and inspirational work with IT and we want to celebrate that. Make IT Happy will harness the natural energy and enthusiasm young people have for IT and help them to discover how technology can change their world for the better. Judging the Make IT Happen competition is an annual delight and we eagerly await this year's entries."

There will, as before, be cash prizes for the winning regional and national schools.

The Make IT Happen competition was initiated by the Parliamentary Information Technology Committee (PITCOM) and is organised by e-skills UK.
