First Minister welcomes opening of Microsoft's new Scottish Base

The new Scottish headquarters of Microsoft in Edinburgh was officially opened by First Minister Alex Salmond today.

Microsoft has moved into the top two floors of the refurbished, former GPO building, Waverley Gate. The company’s office move from George St shows its continued commitment to the business partners, customers, and more than 50 employees that Microsoft has in Scotland.

The First Minister said:

“It gives me great pride to see a company with the scale, success and vision of Microsoft making this firm and long-term commitment to Scotland’s economy.

“Scotland is the perfect home for a company committed to research, development and technology. As a Government we are determined to make the greatest use of our biggest economic asset – the skills of our people – while ensuring our strong tradition for enterprise and innovation continues today.

"we continue to encourage and promote innovation through the year of Homecoming and by supporting projects like the £42 million Informatics Forum Building at the University of Edinburgh.

“One of the world’s largest companies, Microsoft, is taking advantage of our competitive edge and sending a clear message to the world that Scotland is open for business.  I wish them many years of success in their new Edinburgh home.”
