Travel search site Skyscanner announced a 75 per cent boost in turnover to £15.2 million for the year to the end of May 2011, and unveiled plans to open an office in Singapore to target the fast growing Pacific rim market. The firm will open its new office in September.
Ewan Gray, the newly appointed regional director for Asia Pacific, said: "We're very excited about this move. We're seeing exceptionally strong growth in these markets which has largely been organic to date - in countries such as Singapore, China, Indonesia, Japan, India and Malaysia we're already seeing yearly increases in traffic of up to 90 per cent.
"However, the huge scale of these markets, combined with their sophistication and speed of growth, presents a particular set of technical and business challenges and very specific customer requirements.
"While many companies find internationalisation is very tough in online travel, we're confident about meeting those challenges. Skyscanner was designed from the outset to perform well at a global level - building comprehensive flight coverage through direct airline connections, as well as solving language and currency issues."
International expansion accounts for much of the firm's growth in the last three years while it continues to expand its network of commercial partnerships with airlines, online travel agents (OTAs) and other travel companies throughout the world, the company said.
