Annual Review

During 2010, on behalf of Members the ScotlandIS team  : 

  • Conducted the annual Scottish Technology Industry Survey –  there was an exceptional response to the 2010 survey, thank you ! This is increasingly seen as providing authoritative analysis of the industry.
  • Organised an extensive programme of networking events, workshops and interest group meetings in the Central Belt and Aberdeen, covering topics from Cloud to Indirect Export Sales, football to green techology.
  • Showcased good news stories from across the sector – Members reported a string of positive results, new contracts and acquisitions during the year.  Share your news with us, and we’ll promote it on the website
  • Secured support for e-Placement Scotland, a new pan-Scotland programme enabling all computing and IT students to gain ICT industry experience.
  • Input to the Royal Society of Edinburgh’s Digital Scotland report calling for urgent action to ensure all of Scotland can access the benefits of the Digital Economy
  • Promoted the ‘Naturally Cool’ brand for the datacentre SIG members at Nasscom in India. Naturally Cool™  has now been trade marked  for the DC group and a suite of marketing material is in the final throes of production.
  • Continued a dialogue with Scottish Government to encourage better public sector procurement, with a strong emphasis on using smaller Scottish based companies.
  • Organised 10BigThings/ScotSoft 2010. With over 400 people attending, this year’s ScotSoft dinner was exceptional featuring the truly inspirational Kris Akabussi, who raised the roof celebrating the Young Software Engineers of the Year.
  • Supported the SICSA Horizon bid for ‘Smart Tourism‘ – a new industry/academia partnership to deliver next generation tourism technology.
  • Co-ordinated member engagement with the working groups finalising the implementation plans for the Scottish Enterprise facilitated ICT Industry Strategy.
  • Input to the dotScot campaign for a high level domain name for Scotland
