During 2009 ScotlandIS Members benefited from :
An extensive calendar of events, including:
- Technology Forecasts 2009,
- ‘Managing your Data’– an industry briefing with IFB and McGrigors in Aberdeen
- A Masterclass with Mark Taylor, Director DPE, Microsoft – ‘Technology fuelling innovation’
- ‘Breaking into America’ - Software Exporters Group meeting
- ‘Data Centre Scotland’ with Morse and other members of the ScotlandIS Data Centre SIG
- Demofest2009 – with Informatics Ventures - a peek ‘under the bonnet’ of Scottish computing and informatics, showcasing near to market research bubbling under across the universities, as well as
- Maximise your online Profits – an ecommerce briefing, a Tick-IT Plus workshop, Five a sides football tournament, and more.
On behalf of Members, we also;
- Conducted the annual Scottish Technology Industry survey – Members gave us a great response to the 2009 Technology Industry Survey,
- Organised 10BigThings/ScotSoft. With some three hundred people attending the afternoon forum, and four hundred and fifty at the dinner, feedback from Members large and small has been very positive.
- Undertook a major refresh of the ScotlandIS board to represent more closely the breadth of the membership.
- Established two special interest groups: Software Exporters group, Data Centre Scotland group; with an ecommerce group under development.
- Input to the Scottish Enterprise led Industry Advisory Group building a framework for Scottish Enterprise’s support for the ICT sector.
- Continued to promote Members interests with the Scottish Government’s procurement services, eg on the re-tendering of FITSS 1 & 3.
- Engaged Member companies in the Lothian’s Schools Computing Fair, featuring “Dragons Den” “iPhone apps” games and speckled computing workshops, and an employers treasure hunt.
- Through membership of the eskills UK Scotland Board, the industry’s sector skills council, and the ICT Skills Network, worked to ensure the supply of appropriate future skills, and foster closer co-operation on skills development with all players in the skills arena.
