In this Member Spotlight we hear from new Startup member, Tech Pair, on their unique positioning as a boutique, video-first recruitment agency, and the challenges that increased competition and outdated hiring processes are posing for companies when trying to secure skilled tech professionals.
Who is Tech Pair and what do you do?
Tech Pair is a high-touch, video-first, founder-led Tech & Change recruitment partner based in Scotland, working with clients across the UK. We connect exceptional technology talent with companies who value quality over volume across Software Engineering, Data & Analytics, Infrastructure & Cloud, Product & UX/UI, Project & Change, and IT Leadership.
Founded by Michael Phair and Stuart Alexander with circa 50 years of combined experience in the sector we launched Tech Pair to bring recruitment back to what works: proper conversations, trusted partnerships, and a bit of personality along the way.
Tell us something unique or interesting about your organisation.
Every role we work on is personally delivered by one of the founders, no hand-offs, no delivery teams, From brief to onboarding you will work with Michael or Stuart. We’re also a video-first agency, meaning we go beyond job specs to capture goals, context, and personality fit straight from hiring managers, and give candidates the chance to present themselves in their own voice.
The result? More engaged candidates, better informed clients, and hires that last.
What is your biggest achievement as an organisation?
Launching Tech Pair and quickly earning trusted supplier status with multiple organisations across the UK has been a huge milestone, including becoming an accredited supplier on the Bloom Marketplace, giving us procurement access to support public sector organisations nationwide.
We’re also proud to be building a business that reflects the world we want to work in: more empathy, less ego, and a genuine focus on results over noise.
What prompted you to become a member of ScotlandIS?
We wanted to be part of a community that shares our passion for building Scotland’s tech future. ScotlandIS is the hub for digital technology in Scotland and as a startup member, it gives us access to industry insight, collaboration opportunities, and the chance to contribute our perspective on tech hiring and workforce development.
What do you see as the main challenges for the tech industry in the UK and Scotland?
There’s a growing demand for highly skilled tech professionals, but also increasing competition for their attention. Many companies still struggle with outdated hiring processes that put barriers between them and great talent.
We believe the challenge and opportunity lies in humanising the recruitment process while leveraging data and market insight to make smarter, faster hiring decisions.
