Executive Summary

RSE provides full turnkey water and wastewater solutions to utility and industrial clients across the United Kingdom.

Our USP is that we take new or developing technologies, prove their efficacy and then engineer these in a modular and transportable manner thus reducing construction schedules , enhancing quality, shortening delivery programmes , greater cost certainty and a positive impact on the environment.

In terms of key achievements, we now developed a wide range of modular water technologies manufactured at our main base in the Highlands of Scotland, this has supported near 5 fold growth in the last 5 years and resulted in us increasing in headcount by near 400 people in the last 3 years.

We pride ourselves in being a disruptive innovator in the water technologies space and were pleased to recently receive the Kings medal for Innovation

The Challenge

The challenge for us is a cyclical process – as the UK water and waste industry continues to change , with increasing regulation, Carbon and environmental focus we need to continue to offer solutions that deliver efficiency for clients, circular solutions, low carbon products both in terms of embodied and operational carbon and much, much more.

The Solution

In our first three years of formation of our Innovation Hub we set out to develop a cost-effective solution to remove natural organic matter from water supplies , essentially getting poorer as a result of climate change.

In conjunction with this we looked to develop a modularised ceramic membrane filtration solution which would replace polymeric systems which are very expensive, short lifetime solutions which create a lot of plastic waste.

The Impact

We have successfully achieved our ambition with regards ceramic membranes – resulting in the successful delivery of schemes in the midlands ,The south Coast of England, Shetland and and ongoing scheme in Aberdeenshire with a potential value of c. £300M.

Future Plans

A business that has largely developed based on water technologies the need now is to expand and develop our ability to deliver wastewater solutions. The UK industry has over £4B of investment needs in the next 6 years and our need is to develop products to meet those needs.  We aim to develop technologies , deliver them in a modular manner to allow our business to grow further. In addition to this we are working to develop a wide range of Nature based solutions to expand our product catalogue and give greater choices to our clients.
