Silver Lion Innovations exists to transform the lives of people with immobility and those who care for them. Inspired by personal experience of caring for a parent who has Parkinson’s, the first product, EasyOver, is designed for and with those who need it the most.
EasyOver is a smart mattress topper that turns people in bed gently like a hug, enabling comfortable sleeping positions and prevention of pressure ulcers.
The Challenge
One of the challenges those with Parkinson’s and many other health conditions face is difficulty turning over in bed. Medication often runs out during the night and individuals struggle to turn independently, resulting in a poor night’s sleep due to discomfort, as well as the risk of long term health ramifications. The challenges with movement in bed often result in a family carer turning the user without training, risking injury to themselves and their family member. Professional carers are frequently utilised in these circumstances to aid with manual handling, however, our care systems are stretched both with available labour and budget. With the situation getting worse and not better, there is a desperate need for assistive technology to bridge this gap.
The Solution
EasyOver is a comfortable smart mattress topper that attaches to an articulating profiling bed. For an individual, it provides an opportunity to regain independence by enabling them to turn in bed either on a fully customisable turn schedule or manually via a hand held pendant, and can also assist the individual in and out of bed.
For a family carer who is often sleep deprived due to broken nights and at risk of injury when turning their loved one, with the touch of a button, EasyOver provides a safe and gentle method of turning without the need for a difficult manual handling manoeuvre.
Additionally it means they can sleep right through the night knowing their loved one is being turned safely.In circumstances where the NHS or private care agencies are providing care at home, often two carers would be required to carry out the manual handling manoeuvres for turning; personal care in bed; or assistance in and out of bed.
With labour being both costly and less carers coming into the industry, EasyOver allows one carer to carry out dignified care. The improved efficiency of carer’s time and the cost savings on labour are considerable.
The Impact
EasyOver has been crafted with years of design and feedback which has fed into the product development stage and as of September 2025 has transitioned to user testing with the Beta prototype. When EasyOver is delivered to the market in 2026, it will transform the way care can be delivered both at home and in care homes.
