Tell us something unique or interesting about your organisation.
At Vidatec, we’re passionate about creating technology that genuinely improves people’s experiences of life. For us, it’s never just about the code, it’s about the people who will use it. Our unique strength lies in blending commercial insight, user-centred design, and technical expertise to deliver solutions that feel intuitive, impactful, and human. Whether it’s building apps that encourage healthier lifestyles, digital platforms that connect communities, or AI-driven tools that empower teams, our work always starts with one question: how will this make life better?
What is your biggest achievement as an organisation?
One achievement we are particularly proud of is our involvement with the OneYou Couch to 5k app. The C25k platform that has empowered millions to begin their running journey and embrace healthier, active lifestyles. Since its launch in 2016, the app has been downloaded more than 7 million times GOV.UKBBC. In 2024 alone 790,000 people downloaded the app, and an impressive 8.7 million runs were completed across the year GOV.UKHealth Business.
By marrying intuitive, user centred design with behaviour changing technology, we created an accessible, motivating platform that turns the prospect of running five kilometres into an achievable milestone. The global movement of new runners this app has inspired highlights how technology can do more than engage, it can genuinely improve lives. For us, Couch to 5K represents the heart of what Vidatec stands for.
What prompted you to become a member of ScotlandIS?
Vidatec believes technology should be a force for good, and ScotlandIS shares that vision. Joining ScotlandIS lets us share our expertise, collaborate with peers, and help shape Scotland’s digital future. Being part of the wider tech community and ecosystem is important to us — it’s a chance to learn, innovate, and ensure technology enhances human experiences across Scotland and beyond.
What do you see as the main challenges for the tech industry in the UK and Scotland?
The UK and Scotland’s tech industry faces key challenges around talent, adoption, and ecosystem growth. While we still see some of our largest institutions offshoring tech roles and creating opportunities abroad, it’s critical to help them see beyond short-term gains and invest in the local ecosystem for long-term benefits.
AI and emerging technologies offer huge potential, but success depends on the right infrastructure, tools, and guardrails to protect against misuse while enabling innovation. Adoption of AI is also a key challenge, unlocking the full potential of tech means bringing the wider workplace on the journey with us. Concerns over job impact from AI, unclear ROI, and fatigue from juggling multiple systems can all block successful adoption, overcoming these barriers is key to realising lasting value.
Supporting entrepreneurs with better access to funding and resources will help start-ups and scale-ups thrive, ensuring the tech industry continues to grow, innovate, and deliver value across Scotland and the UK.
