The Global Village launches in the US

ScotlandIS member, The Global Village (TGV), has launched an LLC in the US, with the aim to roll out positions for the Virginia location from 13 October 2026.

Roanoke is a vibrant city and economic hub. All TGV locations choices share similar attributes: a rich history, technical and innovation hub, along with proximity to great colleges and universities. Roanoke was the obvious choice that checked every box on the location checklist. 

But Roanoke is also one of the best examples of the TGV values in action. In 2008, TGV CEO, Kasturi Dasgupta, led a transition team to offshore account from one of the largest companies/employers in the area. This led to the loss of over 200 jobs from a single employer. This set off a domino effect. As these employees began withdrawing from local events like cancelling tickets for art shows, or theatre, etc, these local institutions lost their business and in turn had to cut jobs. In short, devastating people and communities alike.

While it was a big success and led to jobs in India, five years on these jobs were moved overnight to Philippines. Once again leaving Indian employees without jobs and scrambling to provide for their own families. Another domino effect of devastated communities. Sadly, the hustle for a lower cost centre continues from one country to another. Even now, almost 20 years on.

TGV does not offshore work, they hire locally.
