All of Scotland encouraged to take part in Cyber Awards

Scots from all corners of the country working to better the nation’s approach to cyber security are being urged to apply to the Scottish Cyber Awards – with the application deadline looming.

To reflect the indiscriminate and nationwide cyber threat, it is being hoped that the awards – now in their fourth year – will be the biggest and most diverse to date.

The annual event was created to encourage those working within this critical field – whether in education, business, policy or crime-prevention, to come together and celebrate achievements.

Hosted by the Scottish Business Resilience Centre (SBRC) the popular event now receives the global backing from sponsors such as Adarma, CGI, Clydesdale Bank, Symantec and more.

Categories this year include Cyber Security Teacher of the Year, Leading Light Innovation, and Collaboration with Police Scotland Award.

Nominations close on Friday 13th September and winners will be decided by an expert panel of cyber specialists from across a number of sectors and will receive one of the specially designed awards.

Alistair Wylie, Head of Technology, Engineering, and Construction qualifications at SQA, said; “Our cyber security courses give young people the opportunity to develop essential knowledge and skills, and provide a pathway for students to access this growing sector. However, we are entirely reliant upon the dedication of teachers across Scotland to deliver these qualifications and inspire young people every day. Their commitment and passion will open up the possibilities of the industry, and we are delighted to continue to offer our support of the Scottish Cyber Awards and celebrate all the nominees for Scottish Cyber Security Teacher of the Year.”

Scott McElney, Senior Manager of Information Security Strategy and Execution at Clydesdale Bank said: “Clydesdale Bank is proud to support the Scottish Cyber Awards for a second year, sponsoring the Outstanding Cyber Team award. This event showcases the wealth of cyber talent in Scotland and highlights important areas of focus such as gender diversity and education in this sector. We are looking forward to a great evening, celebrating the Scottish cyber industry.”

The award categories also include: Best New Cyber Talent; Outstanding Woman in Cyber; Cyber Evangelist of the Year; Outstanding Cyber Team; Best Cyber Education Programme; and Best Cyber Breakthrough.

The Scottish Cyber Awards will be held on 20th November at the Sheraton Hotel in Edinburgh.
