Shining a Light on Scotland’s ‘Tech for Good’ Stars

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2021 Digital Technology Awards. This year the Awards will be celebrating the companies and individuals that have been doing good; whether it’s contributing to the community, creating technology that helps serve society, or involvement in skilling others in technology.

The annual awards are run by ScotlandIS, the membership and cluster management organisation for Scotland’s digital tech industry.

Each year the awards reflect the strength of the sector, celebrating the wealth of innovation and talent Scotland has to offer from businesses both small and large. This year’s awards, sponsored by the Scottish Government, Connecting Scotland, Morgan Stanley, Iomart and The Data Lab will be held in a virtual setting, and will focus on four awards categories to reflect the social, educational and innovative achievements over a difficult year:

  • Tech for good – a product or service created to meet the social challenges many have faced;
  • Social impact – highlighting the effect of activities on people and communities;
  • Unsung heroes – honouring those who have done something truly special for the tech community;
  • Skills contribution – demonstrating impact through the Critical Friends programme or taking on a Foundation Apprentice, to a digital solution to meet a challenge in the education sector.

Applications close on 28th May, after which a judging panel will meet to decide on the shortlisted nominees in June. The Digital Tech Awards will take place on Wednesday 23rd June, from 3pm-5pm.

Karen Meechan, Interim CEO of ScotlandIS, said: “Scotland’s digital and tech sector has risen to the challenge this year to help make a huge difference to people’s lives as we have adjusted to the impact of the pandemic. We want to truly reflect that in this year’s awards and really shine a light on some of the amazing social impact activity that we’ve seen across the board.

“We are inviting companies, organisations and individuals to share their experiences and put forward nominations. I am looking forward to hearing a wide range of uplifting stories from this year’s nominees.”
