Telecoms advisor celebrates landmark 5G client win

With 5G rarely out of the headlines these days – mainly for all the wrong reasons – it is unusual to find a good news story surrounding 5G.

That has changed thanks to a landmark client project win at Intelligens Consulting. The elite team at Intelligens Consulting will be working with this local authority to develop 5G use cases to unlock investment in 5G networks.

Intelligens Consulting Director, Iqbal Singh Bedi said, “This is a landmark project as we will be supporting this local authority to develop 5G use cases that will benefit society, drive demand and support a commercially sustainable busines case to unlock investment in full 5G networks. Our client has the potential to become the UK’s first ‘full 5G’ City”.

While all four UK mobile operators have made announcement to roll out 5G networks across the UK, these deployments are are based on incremental upgrades to existing macro 4G network infrastructure.

The true benefits of full 5G including multi gigabit download speeds, ultra low latency and IoT capability will require a significant investment in dedicated 5G network infrastructure.

That investment is costly, running into millions of pounds for city centres. Therefore, rather than sticking to the ‘build it and they will come’ approach used with the deployment of 4G networks, mobile operators now require the demand for 5G to be proven before they make significant investment in 5G network infrastructure, thus removing the uncertainty and proving the business case in advance. This project seals Intelligens Consulting’s position as a true through leader in 5G. Intelligens Consulting has previously published a paper for the International Telecommunications Union on deploying 5G networks as well as advising major cities and rail operators on their 5G strategies.
