ScotlandIS Member Spotlight: Shackleton Technologies

In this Member Spotlight we hear from new member, Shackleton Technologies, about the need for collaboration if Scotland is to make the most of opportunities created by tech, cyber security and AI, and on joining ScotlandIS to play an active part in that.

Who is Shackleton Technologies and what do you do?

Shackleton Technologies helps organisations achieve their strategic goals through technology, delivering managed IT strategy, cyber security, and support that allows businesses to operate with confidence.

We provide fully managed and co-managed IT services, cyber security, cloud solutions and strategic technology advice. Our role goes beyond keeping systems running. We help organisations understand their risks, make better technology decisions and ensure their IT supports where the business is heading.

Our clients are primarily SMEs and growing organisations that value a close, long-term partnership with a team that understands both their technology and their wider business.

Tell us something unique or interesting about your organisation.

We have developed Silent Intercept, an interactive cyber resilience exercise that puts people at the centre of a developing cyber incident.

Participants work in different business teams, with each team receiving only part of the information. They must communicate, make decisions and respond as the situation unfolds. It brings cyber resilience to life in a practical and engaging way, showing that an incident is never simply an IT problem. It quickly becomes a leadership, financial, operational and communications challenge.

It reflects our wider approach: making complex technology and cyber risks understandable, relevant and actionable.

What is your biggest achievement as an organisation?

Our biggest achievement is the trust we have built with our clients and the long-term relationships that have grown from it.

As Shackleton has developed, we have successfully evolved from a traditional IT support provider into a broader technology and cyber resilience partner, while retaining the personal service and genuine care that the business was built on.

We are proud of the team we have created and our ability to keep improving, developing new services and responding to changing client needs without losing sight of what matters most: doing the right thing and helping our clients become stronger.

What prompted you to become a member of ScotlandIS?

We wanted to become more closely connected to Scotland’s wider technology community.

ScotlandIS gives us the opportunity to learn from other organisations, share experiences, build new relationships and contribute to conversations about the future of the sector. It also provides a valuable link between technology businesses, education, government and the wider Scottish business community.

We believe collaboration is essential if Scotland is to make the most of the opportunities created by technology, cyber security and AI, and we want Shackleton to play an active part in that.

What do you see as the main challenges for the tech industry in the UK and Scotland?

The pace of change is both the industry’s greatest opportunity and one of its biggest challenges.

Organisations are under pressure to adopt AI, strengthen cyber resilience and modernise their technology, but many lack the time, skills or internal capacity to make informed decisions. The challenge is not simply providing more technology. It is helping organisations understand what will genuinely add value, what risks need to be managed and how to bring their people with them.

Skills shortages remain a significant issue, particularly in cyber security and emerging technologies. As an industry, we also need to make technology careers more accessible and create stronger pathways for people from different backgrounds to enter and develop within the sector.
