Sword Group Acquires Edinburgh AWS Specialist CirrusHQ
ScotlandIS member, Sword Group, has acquired Edinburgh-headquartered AWS specialist CirrusHQ as part of its international expansion strategy, strengthening its multi-cloud, hybrid cloud, AI and public sector capabilities in the UK.
CirrusHQ is an Amazon Web Services Premier Consulting and Solution Provider partner, delivering cloud infrastructure, transformation strategies and migration services for enterprise-scale IT estates. The company supports customers across the UK, with a focus on helping organisations balance security, performance and cost on AWS.
The acquisition is expected to add complementary “multi-hybrid cloud computing” skills to Sword’s UK operations, with CirrusHQ set to contribute to the group’s multi-cloud and hybrid capabilities across all sectors. Sword said the deal will have a particular focus on education and public sector organisations.
Kevin Moreton, CEO of Sword UK, said: “We are delighted to welcome CirrusHQ to the Sword family. Their deep expertise and ability to deliver innovation at pace will be a great asset as we continue to grow and evolve to meet the demands of a fast-changing landscape shaped by digital and AI technologies.”
CirrusHQ joins international group
CirrusHQ said it will continue to operate as it does today, with the same team and leadership delivering for customers across the UK. The company said its position as an AWS Premier Tier Services Partner is unchanged, and that its focus will remain on helping customers find the best balance of security, performance and cost on AWS.
The Edinburgh firm said Sword’s model with acquired businesses is to preserve their specialism and identity while giving them access to greater scale. CirrusHQ will join a wider UK network that already includes more than 650 Sword employees across Aberdeen, Glasgow, Teesside and London.
“I am delighted to be welcoming the CirrusHQ team to Sword. This acquisition reaffirms Sword’s commitment to enhance our multi-cloud and hybrid capabilities, particularly in Public Sector organisations. CirrusHQ joining Sword is a significant step in strengthening Sword’s AI and multi-cloud strategy and aligns with our strategic vision 2028,” Moreton said.
James Lucas of CirrusHQ said: “We’re thrilled to be joining Sword, who share our commitment to excellence and to our people. We’re confident that together we will achieve even more than we could alone.”
CirrusHQ said there will be no change to customer contracts, points of contact or day-to-day ways of working. The firm added that its team, leadership and AWS practice will continue as before.
Over time, CirrusHQ said joining Sword will allow it to offer customers a wider set of complementary capabilities across cloud, AI and security, backed by the scale of an international group.
Sword UK supports the energy, public, commercial and financial sectors from offices in Aberdeen, Glasgow, Teesside and London.
