Executive Summary

KubeNet is a Scottish-based MSP providing managed IT, Cyber security, infrastructure and digital transformation services to the Private and Public sector.

As a Trusted Technology partner we are dedicated to empowering organisations of all sizes to harness the full potential of digital technology and collaboration is fundamental to our approach. We work in partnership with clients to deliver secure, scalable, and tailored solutions across the full technology landscape.

With a number of industry awards, our greatest asset is our staff, and our services are underpinned through our ISO, Cyber Essentials plus accreditations and partnerships with leading global tech companies, including Microsoft, Cisco, Sophos and Kaseya.

The Challenge

The client was delivering a large-scale project that required a fully air-gapped infrastructure, completely separate from their existing corporate network. Security was critical, as the environment involved operational technology (OT) devices that could not risk exposure to external threats. In addition, the remote physical location of the site meant that a standard internet circuit could not be supplied, creating a further barrier to the project.

The Solution

KubeNet designed and implemented a dedicated network and infrastructure environment that met the client’s strict security and connectivity requirements. This included a dual-layered firewall architecture to safeguard OT devices and best-practice hardening across all infrastructure components. To overcome the connectivity challenge, we deployed a Starlink satellite service, supported by a 5G router for resilient backup. Structured copper and fibre cabling was installed throughout the workshop, ensuring robust and secure interconnection between OT devices and endpoints.

The Impact

The client was able to deploy their large-scale project on time with a fully air-gapped infrastructure, ensuring complete separation from the corporate network.

Secure connectivity between OT devices and endpoints enabled reliable data transfer and monitoring across the site.

The Starlink and 5G backup setup delivered over 99.9% uptime during testing, providing resilient connectivity in a location previously considered unsuitable for stable internet access.

By establishing structured cabling and resilient connectivity, the client gained the ability to capture, process, and analyse operational data in near real-time, improving efficiency and decision-making.

The overall solution provided infrastructure that can be scaled as new OT devices and data requirements are added.

Future Plans

Our aim is to take our clients from blueprint to brilliance as we continue to invest heavily in our people, AI platforms, automation and data-driven services to support and help organisations navigate and manage an increasingly complex IT and data environments, including secure cloud adoption and advanced cybersecurity.
