Executive Summary

OurNet.Energy, founded in 2022 and based in Scotland, is tackling one of the biggest barriers to fleet decarbonisation: grid capacity. Its flagship solution, the ONE Smart Grid, combines onsite renewables, large-scale battery storage, and intelligent software to deliver fast, reliable, net-zero power where the grid cannot.

By enabling fleet depots to charge electric trucks in 40 minutes, install in just 3 months (versus 10 years for grid upgrades), and cover costs through energy savings, OurNet.Energy empowers transport operators to decarbonise at speed. Partnering with European Truck OEMs, the company ensures EV adoption is not held back by grid constraints—creating a win-win-win for fleets, manufacturers, and the planet.

The Challenge

How do you sell electric trucks to people who can’t charge them?

Transport and Distribution business are being mandated to decarbonise their fleets. OEM’s are now offering EV Trucks that are cheaper to run than ICE trucks. So job done?

The problem is that ALL of the UK fleet depots have tiny grid connections as, historically they didn’t use much electricity. Now a fleet of 20 trucks needs ~10MWh of electricity per day to charge and the grid just can’t do it.

So the fleets can’t charge them and therefore the OEMs can’t sell them because the grid can’t deliver the power. Stalemate.

The Solution

The ONE Smart Grid solves this by using onsite renewables together with large battery storage, energy arbitrage and a lot of software!  As a result the fleets can now:

  1. Charge the EV trucks in 40 minutes
  2. Install in 3 months beating the 10 years they were offered by the national grid to upgrade their substation
  3. Deliver NetZero electricity to meet their sustainability targets and decarbonise their fleet
  4. Do this whilst covering the capital cost.
      The Impact

The OEM now, through their dealerships, sells the white labelled ONE Smart Grid to their fleet clients. They sell more trucks, the client decarbs their fleet and cuts cost, and ONE sells more Smart Grids. It’s a win-win-win.

      Future Plans

We will deliver the same benefits to schools, hospitals, housing associations, government buildings and other commercial sites. Namely, zero carbon energy, decarbonising buildings that run at lower cost by harnessing Scotland’s world leading renewable energy capacity.
