The Enterprise Fellowship Scheme (EFS) helps post-doc researchers and innovators turn cutting-edge ideas into real-world products and services that drive societal progress and economic growth.
Through the scheme, Fellows receive a year of salary support, tailored business training, expert mentorship, opportunities to spend time abroad in a centre for excellence that’s relevant to their field, and access extensive academic, business, and investor networks — enabling them to focus fully on developing their enterprises.
Impact Snapshot
Since its inception, the EFS has supported over 270 Fellows, with 93% founding at least one business and 81% of those ventures still operating or acquired. Collectively, these businesses contribute around £77.3m GVA in Scotland, £132.3m GVA in the UK and £167.4m globally per year and create skilled jobs across a range of sectors (data from 2019 Biggar Economics Evaluation). Beyond the numbers, the scheme helps build leadership capacity and strengthens innovation across the UK.
