ScotlandIS, the membership and cluster management organisation for Scotland’s digital technologies sector, is calling for responses to its 18th annual industry survey.
The survey will contribute to the organisation’s 2026 report which acts as a temperature gauge for Scotland’s technology industry. It provides a year-on-year comparison of the sector’s health, highlighting potential opportunities and challenges that businesses expect to face in the year ahead.
The 2025 report showed continued confidence, with 73% of respondents expressing optimism for 2025. A large proportion (69%) of respondents also expected AI and machine learning to be the biggest growth area for 2025 with 70% anticipating a requirement for these skills.
The survey has been an annual fixture in the industry calendar since it was first launched in 2008.
Originally designed to show the impact Scottish technology businesses had on the wider economy – with the latest version estimating the economic contribution at £6.87 billion – the report now provides a valuable barometer for the overall health of the industry.
Karen Meechan, CEO at ScotlandIS said: “We’re encouraging everyone working in Scotland’s technology sector to take a few minutes to complete our survey. The more voices we hear, the more accurately we can represent and support the sector.
“The last few years have been challenging for businesses, but optimism continues to shine through Scotland’s tech community. From previous responses, we’ve seen just how strong and resilient our industry is in the face of adversity, and we hope to see that reflected again in the 2026 report.
“That said, the year ahead won’t be without its hurdles. The sector is yet again in need of stability as they face ongoing tax burdens and skills shortages, we know the road ahead won’t be easy for them. That’s why our annual report is so vital. It helps us understand the challenges and opportunities our members face, and where support is needed most.”
