ScotlandIS Member Spotlight: MantaRAI

In this Member Spotlight we hear from new Startup member, MantaRAI, on joining ScotlandIS to achieve their ambition of driving forward responsible AI in Scotland.

Who is MantaRAI and what do you do?

Founded in 2025, MantaRAI is a startup AI Governance platform and consultancy partnering with organisations at all stages of their AI Governance and Responsible AI journey.

MantaRAI is built with the vision to help clients navigate the ocean of AI Governance and to help them implement AI safely in their organisation and for their customers. At MantaRAI we help clients to understand the lifecycle of their AI use cases and how to ensure that they have the robust governance measures needed to be compliant and see a return on their AI investment for the long term. We do this through a tailored approach from conducting AI audits, mapping shadow AI in the organisation and creating AI Governance frameworks and policies to helping upskill their workforce. We partner with our clients to address their most pressing AI Governance concerns so that they can lead with confidence.

Tell us something unique or interesting about your organisation.

MantaRAI is a product and consultancy business because we live the principle of humans in the loop. We believe that AI Governance is not just a problem to be solved with technology but with the blend of people and technology. We believe that setting strong foundations for AI Governance means working with clients in their organisational context, understanding their values, ways of working, as well as their definition of success. We tailor our products and services to fit around the clients to ensure sustainable progress together with AI and people.

What is your biggest achievement as an organisation?

As an early stage start up our biggest achievement in the last 6 months of operating is having reputable organisations test our product and provide feedback, including the BBC and Natwest.

What prompted you to become a member of ScotlandIS?

Founded in Scotland and keen to work with Scottish enterprises, we believe that ScotlandIS is the central pillar of the digital and technology sector, bringing together a diverse range of members in the pursuit of deploying technology that positively impacts businesses and society. We are keen to be part of that community and help drive forward responsible AI.

What do you see as the main challenges for the tech industry in the UK and Scotland?

A report conducted by EY showed that out of the 975 companies they surveyed the average loss from AI-related risks was $4.4 Million and that companies who invested in Responsible AI had a risk reduction of 30%. The trends and studies show that a lot of companies are rushing to adopt AI without the strong governance required to ensure that you see a return on investment and that AI adoption is successful and sustainable. Alongside evolving legislation like the EU AI Act the main challenges companies will face is ensuring that they can deploy safe and successful AI products and services while navigating the complex regulatory landscape.

Strong AI Governance foundations will become the strategic differentiator between organisations who are successful in the next 12-24 months and those who risk compliance errors, reputational damage and potentially customer safety.
