ScotlandIS Member Spotlight: Rule28

In this Member Spotlight we hear from new Startup member, Rule28, on the power of networking introducing them to ScotlandIS and the unique way they came up with their business name.

Who is Rule28 and what do you do?

Rule28 is a trusted source of support for organisations to effectively prevent, adapt and respond to, as well as recover and learn from, operational disruptions.

Whether your business is just starting out in business continuity and resilience or has an established programme and looking to continuously improve, Rule28 can offer a breadth of services to support you to start, maintain and improve the resilience of your business.

Tell us something unique or interesting about your organisation.

The name Rule28 is not directly related to business continuity & resilience. When I was trying to think of a company name, the resilience and continuity names were either taken or a bit uninspiring. During the same period of time, my husband and I were binge watching the american TV series NCIS which had a lead character, Gibbs, who lived and worked to a specific set of rules. Rule 28 was ‘if you need help, ask’, which really resonated with me and so Rule28 was born.

What is your biggest achievement as an organisation?

We are a new start up, so its early days for big achievements, but securing our first client was definitely a moment to celebrate.

What prompted you to become a member of ScotlandIS?

The power of networking. I was lucky enough to meet Nicola and Beverly at a CyberNorth event in Newcastle, where I learnt about ScotlandIS, the fantastic work you do and how I can contribute.

What do you see as the main challenges for the tech industry in the UK and Scotland?

Organisations are navigating a complex landscape with evolving threats and growing demands on resources. From a business continuity and resilience perspective, key challenges include cyber risk, supply chain resilience, and regulatory complexity.

Responding and recovering effectively to disruption (within budget and available resource), requires realistic and proportionate planning based on current risks and best practices. Leveraging sector insights and collaboration, while tailoring continuity frameworks and scenario-based exercises to the unique circumstances of each organisation, can help organisations to be ready to face these challenges head on.
