In this Member Spotlight, we hear from new Startup member, WeeBe.org, on its unique human-first social platform, and on joining ScotlandIS to connect with the wider tech and innovation ecosystem.
Who is WeeBe.org and what do you do?
WeeBe.org is a purpose-led tech startup based in Edinburgh on a mission to combat social disconnection through one-to-one, human-led conversations. Our online platform connects people seeking friendly, meaningful conversation (we call them Bees) with trained, empathetic listeners (Keepers), offering a safe, anonymous, and non-judgemental space to talk.
Tell us something unique or interesting about your organisation.
What sets WeeBe.org apart is our belief that emotional wellbeing starts with connection. We’re not a dating app, chatbot, or helpline—we’re building a human-first space for peer connection rooted in empathy, safety, and mutual respect. Our “invite-only beta” is focused on gathering lived experiences to co-design a scalable, inclusive platform from the ground up.
What is your biggest achievement as an organisation?
Our biggest achievement to date is launching our private beta programme with real participants, collaborators from mental health and social care backgrounds, and support from organisations across Scotland. The response has reaffirmed the urgent need for a space like WeeBe and inspired us to keep building with care and purpose.
What prompted you to become a member of ScotlandIS?
We joined ScotlandIS to connect with the wider tech and innovation ecosystem, learn from others who are building with purpose, and discover opportunities for collaboration, mentorship, and growth. We believe ScotlandIS is a natural home for values-driven startups like ours.
What do you see as the main challenges for the tech industry in the UK and Scotland?
The biggest challenge is balancing innovation with ethical responsibility—especially in areas like mental health, AI, and user safety. We also see a growing need for platforms to prioritise genuine human connection over engagement metrics, and to build tech that serves social good without compromise.
