FinTech Scotland Announces New CEO

FinTech Scotland has announced that CEO Nicola Anderson will step down from her leadership position this year to be replaced by Aleks Tomczyk.

As the incoming chief executive, Tomczyk will join the cluster management body with immediate effect as designate CEO, and work with Anderson over the remainder of 2025.

After five years heading FinTech Scotland, Anderson is leaving to take up a new senior director position with Scottish Enterprise, having been instrumental in the growth of the fintech organisation.

During her tenure, the not-for-profit has become the leading agency in the development of Scotland’s fintech cluster, delivering substantial progress through research, innovation, and industry collaboration.

Under Anderson’s leadership, FinTech Scotland has launched and led a series of nationally and internationally recognised initiatives, including the Financial Regulation Innovation Lab (FRIL), and the UK’s first FinTech Research and Innovation Strategic Roadmap.

Most recently, Andserson has helmed FinTech Scotland’s partnership with Scottish Enterprise on the launch of the new North America Fintech Gateway, and introduced the organisation’s industry-wide innovation challenge that offered £50,000 in grant awards to enhance stability across financial services.

These initiatives have strengthened the opportunity for fintechs in Scotland, both those starting and more established names, work which the organisation said continues to enhance its position as a national leader in financial innovation.

“It’s been a privilege to lead Fintech Scotland for the past five years and to work with so many committed and collaborative partners,” said Anderson.

“We can all be proud of the fintech cluster we have collectively built and the positive impact of businesses and people in shaping the economy. I know Aleks will be a huge success in this role and look forward to continuing to work with him.”

With big shoes to fill, Tomczyk will work to build on those foundations, which include a range of over thirty industrial and academic strategic partners, and a highly engaged fintech community of 250-plus entrepreneurial SMEs.

Tomczyk brings more than twenty years of experience in fintech to his new role, having built two fintechs based in Scotland, namely Exizent and Arum, as well as delivering financial technology transformation projects in large businesses as a project manager, programme manager, and programme director.

“I am delighted to be taking on the CEO role and building on the great work of Nicola and the team,” said Tomczyk.

“With a great academic base, an important financial services sector and ambitious growing fintechs, there is much to build on and more potential that, through continued collaboration, can result in a positive impact on the economy.”
