Gender Diversity in Cyber Security Leadership to be Tackled in New Government & Industry Backed Initiative

Following on from the success of the recent “Empowering Women to Lead Digital Transformation” Programme, which culminates in a graduation event for its first cohort next week, ScotlandIS, The Scottish Government and the Scottish Digital Academy have joined forces again with leadership coaching specialists Empowering-You to tackle the long acknowledged challenge of gender diversity within cyber security.

Empowering Women to Lead Cyber Security” is a cross-sector programme which aims to develop a collaborative and powerful community of emerging women leaders in cyber security roles across Scotland.

The three-month programme, consisting of a combination of virtual and in-person group workshops and one-to-one sessions, will run from September to November and the call for applications opened earlier this month, with the deadline for applications set for the 30th of July.

The Autumn cohort will consist of 20-24 early-mid career cyber security professionals, selected via an open application process by our Programme Panel including the Head of the Scottish Digital Academy, Lee Dunn, The Scottish Government’s Lead for Talent Attraction & Capability in the Digital Profession, Roz Britton, and Ciara Mitchell, Head of Cyber Security at ScotlandIS, alongside other senior representatives from government and industry partners.

All participant places are free of charge to ensure accessibility to as wide a range of organisations and individuals as possible, with funding for the Programme provided by its partners in government and the wider tech industry.

Commenting on the key role of ScotlandIS in supporting this new cyber security initiative, Ciara Mitchell commented “With women making up only 20% of the cyber workforce currently and with key skills shortages increasing all the time, it is imperative that we encourage those women already in cyber security to remain and encourage more to join. This course will support the participants to continue in their cyber security careers and help ensure that women are working in roles at all levels of the sector.

Applications for the Empowering Women to Lead Cyber Security Programme will be open until the 30th of July and more information, including details on how to apply, can be found at https://www.empowering-you.co.uk/ewlcs-scotland-autumn-2021
